The last few weeks Bell Sympatico's outgoing e-mail servers have well...sucked.

Have talked to a number of friends who are also Bell Sympatico customers...and all are experiencing the same problem with it taking forever to send e-mail messages.

Bell Sympatico's website doesn't say very much other than some crap about experiencing a high volume of mail due to a large amount of SPAM.

Just wondering to what extent this is a problem...is it just in Ontario or elsewhere?

If this goes on much longer I'm going to jump ship to someone else...now that there's some competition for DSL service.

Telus out here on the wet coast has been in trouble with its customers both for the ADSL service and phone service. Laying off six thousand of its workers in one year has meant that people even in urban areas are waiting weeks for phone line repair.
There is a standard of service that these phone companies are expected to meet and it is determined by the CRTC. Presently the CRTC is assessing the lack of service levels to Telus customers to estimate the amount of refund telus customers should expect.
You can contact the CRTC through their website and they will return your email in a fairly prompt fashion.
Isn't the privatization of public ervices wonderful?

Only thing is that as far as I know internet service is not regulated in any way...so no requirements for service performance.

Although landline telephone service is regulated...not quite sure about cellphone service...think its only regulated from the point it "enters the pipe".

It's apparently not Sympatico's fault. They're having a problem with e-mail viruses.

This is extremely odd.

I use sympatico, and about 2-3 weeks ago I suddenly noticed a dramatic decline in the spam I was getting -- I now get only about a fifth of what used to come in. It was so dramatic at first that I was worried for a few days, but all my real mail seems to be working both ways.

Sometimes I think my outgoing is slow -- but by slow I mean five minutes, not hours.

Perhaps sympatico has some sort of spam filter so you're not getting all the spam but it's still clogging the system?

Really? There might be a refund for Telus Customers?

I remember reading an article on calgary.cbc.ca about how the Consumers Association found that Telus' wait time at the call centres was way out of control. Apparently you shouldn't have to wait more than 2 minutes to get through, as proper customer service etiquette. The average wait time for Telus was over 20 minutes and when I had called them myself personally, I had to wait 50 minutes. I even took a shower while I waited and kept the phone by the sink. Haha.

Now I have a cell phone with Bell and no lan line.
