The undergraduate student association at Concordia University in Montreal, the Concordia Student Union (CSU), has suspended the staff union (CUPE 4512) president, Christina Xydous, for 2 months without pay.CUPE 4512 web site CUPE 4512 is asking people to write letters to the editor of the local campus media. This week they got quite a few. Letters (of solidarity with CUPE 4512) to the editor. Next week they are hoping to get even more. The CSU executive is starting to feel the pressure. This is especially true given the irony their anti-Starbucks boycott campaign which has targeted Starbucks for, among other things, its record of union-busting! funny ironic student union busting article As of today, a petition campaign has started on Concordia's downtown campus and stickers are being distributed with the slogan: REINSTATE CHRISTINA student unions don't bust unions

"This is especially true given the irony their anti-Starbucks boycott campaign which has targeted Starbucks for, among other things, its record of union-busting!" The thing is there is a lot of irony here!!!! Unions are upset because this individual was disciplined for speaking publicly about her employer and the employer had no problem with her performance. I totally agree, discipline is unacceptable however the irony that I see is that the unions blacklist anyone who disagree with them or criticise them. I say the staff shouldn't have been disciplined but ask the unions that they should practice what they preach. Just look at the article below. The case highlighted in this article is not at all an isolated or extreme case. Union members are discriminated against by "union bosses" frequently and any attempted action by the members to stop discrimination and bullying result in them being black listed, threatened and intimidated by the "union bosses". Here is the article: Jan. 2, 2005. 08:46 AM STEVE RUSSELL/TORONTO STAR Colombia native Juan Sierra, a legal resident and member of Universal Workers Union Local 183, says the union and some contractors discriminate against and often exploit Latin American workers.
