I avoid Wal-Mart, but when I was buying some shirts at A&N earlier I could not help but wonder how they have such low prices. Are they as unethical as Wal-Mart in order to bring me such cheap clothing?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the A&N sells factory seconds, discontinued lines and returned clothes from department stores etc.

Dunno about their buying practices. Jaqui Cohen, President of the stores (inherited from her father) has raised many millions for local charity through a foundation she started in '91.

“Face The World Foundation mandate is to help those organizations that might otherwise fall through the fundraising cracks. With a special focus on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, we look to alleviate the pain caused by hunger, sickness, homelessness, mental illness and drug, alcohol and physical abuse.”

On the other hand, she was caught in a scandal, perhaps not of her making, when trees in Pacific Spirit Park were illegally chopped across from her mansion. Around the time certain politicians were staying there during the ill-fated Asian economic summit.
