One man, a 55-year-old chemist, claimed he was in charge of an experiment to test the effect of deadly nerve gas on political prisoners.

"He said he was involved in the killing of two people – one who did not expire for 2˝ hours, and the second didn't die till 3˝ hours had passed," Cooper told CBC for a documentary airing Wednesday night on the radio program Dispatches.

Horrible.

Does it take a gas chamber to get their attention? Isn't that how Americans are executed? What about depleted uranium? Is that okay because it was devised all on its own without any lessons from Hitler and Stalin?

Good question. The charitable interpretation of the SWC's selective stance is that this is something that resonates especially strongly with Holocaust survivors.

But you're right, it seems odd that the SWC is suddenly joining the fray when they've previously (as far as I know) focused almost entirely on the Holocaust.

And as regards the use of the gas chamber in the US, I think there may still be a couple of states that use it, but not many.

Still, it's pretty horrible to gas dissidents. Maybe when the regime falls (which it will, eventually) they'll have trials like Germany had for all those Stasi agents and the like. Not much else can be done now, except watch the situation.

Execution methods vary state by state. I think the most widely used is lethal injection. Gas chambers or electric chairs are still common. California has a gas chamber. Oregon still has hangings and in Utah they are pro-choice as you are given the option of a firing squad or gas chamber.

There is so much bad stuff that goes on in North Korea it is hard to even comprehend. If they only had some oil the US could invade them for humanitarian reasons.

If it's straight from the horse's mouth in Washington, then it must be true.
