The Hindu Conference of Canada, in its relentless commitment to freedom and democratic values, is continuing to defend the rights of women. Please see the following HCC letter published in the National Post.(In keeping with Rabble policy, I am posting part of the letter and putting in the link to the website where it can be found): www.hccanada.com --------------------------------------------- Ontario right to reject Sharia Tuesday, September 13, 2005 Re: Ontario Rejects Sharia Law, Sept. 12. In disallowing Sharia law, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has correctly prevented Ontario from proceeding down a slippery slope. The suggestion by Sharia supporters that Muslim women must "opt into" Sharia tribunals ignores the reality that immigrant women from nations such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan -- conditioned by subservience and centuries of male oppression -- would inevitably be pressured to conform to judgments. Ontario does not have the resources to monitor every decision stringently to ensure that abuses are not occurring, nor does it have a plan in place to ensure that radical imams are excluded from becoming Sharia judges. For a good example of the results of kowtowing to a radical Islamic minority, one only needs to look at democratic India. In June, 2005, Imrana Ilahi was raped by her father-in-law, and Sharia courts ordered her to marry her rapist. This type of incident is rampant because in the interests of "secularism" and appeasing the Islamic minority, India has allowed Muslim personal laws to be applied rather than a Uniform Civil Code. ----------------------------------------------- For the exciting conclusion to this Letter, please visit www.hccanada.com

Mr. Magoo, in his infinite wisdom and enlightenment, finds your tireless and unwavering cheerleading for the HCC persistently and unfailingly funny. Any more over the top though and I'll suggest you contact rabble about paying for an ad.

I'm just noting that you don't miss a chance to "pump" the HCC a bit. Usually one posts the link and lets the readers themselves decide, for example, whether the conclusion of a letter is in fact "exciting", or whether the HCC is in fact relentlessly committed to freedom and democratic values.I'm not suggesting they aren't. Just saying that it immediately makes your post look a bit biased. Why the need for the "spin"? Why not just post the letter? Are you directly involved with them?

Well, I can do that from now on... it's just that I do admire these guys so much that it is very hard for me to resist the temptation to throw in my commentary. When one sees greatness, it is hard to resist pointing out that it exists. As for that line skdadl picked out, all I can say is that was the content of the letter, and since it was published in a mainstream, highly respected, and unbiased publication like the National Post, there can be little wrong with it. I hardly think the National Post would allow the publication of anything terribly offensive or insensitive. And realistically, anyone who denies that women have been oppressed for centuries in those countries must be living in Disneyland. It is a sad and awful fact about that part of the world, but it is true.

Or impossible, evidently. But if this greatness is so swooningly overwhelming, why don't you trust the rest of us to clue in to it ourselves? I mean, would you feel the need, standing at the lip of the Grand Canyon, to tell any who'd hear you "look how BIG that thing is! It sure is BIG!"? I mean, when it's that big, you don't really need to point it out anymore, do you? Anyway, carry on. You're not violating any policy, and it's not like I'm a moderator. But I do think that a fair number of people, myself included, promptly tune out when someone starts evangelizing. In that respect you're not helping yourself or the HCC any.
