What the hell is all this fear-mongering about "hurting the economy" all about? Just what is the economy anyways? All i see it as is the flow of money from the poorest up through the pyramid of hierarchy to the most wealthiest amongst us.

And how does something hurt this economy thing? It is not a living creature and, therefore, has no nerve endings that can reflect hurt or pain. It seems what most folks are referring to is any sort of interruption or dimishment of the flow of money into the pockets of the wealthiest.

So why do so many of the people on the lower levels of that wealth pyramid even gives a rat's ass about interrupting that flow when only the ones at the top most levels are realizing any positive benefits anyways?

Merriam Webster states that economy means:

quote:
1 archaic : the management of household or private affairs and especially expenses
2 a : thrifty and efficient use of material resources : frugality in expenditures; also : an instance or a means of economizing : SAVING b : efficient and concise use of nonmaterial resources (as effort, language, or motion)

Take the example of the oil sands project in Alberta. There is nothing frugal or thrifty about that project, especially from an environmental perspective. In fact, there is little that our madarins of governance do that is either thrifty or frugal, efficient or concise.

If there is a constant flow upward, does that imply that money starts out at the bottom?

The economy is the massively complicated system in which people provide labour for capital, and exchange capital for goods and services.

No labour is at the bottom and that's what creates wealth.

In exchange for which they receive money. Flowing downward, or sideways.
