The Pittsburgh Public Schools will drop "public" from its name and adopt a new, standardized way of referring to its schools as part of a campaign to brighten and strengthen the district's image.

For example, Schenley High School will be called Pittsburgh Schenley.

The line of thought here is kind of amusing. If "public" schools are having problems, let's just not call them that.

But that's dumb. It doesn't tell you in the name whether it's an elementary or secondary school.

That's for sure. None of those schools need new textbooks or sports equipment or musical instruments or something?

As someone who went to high school in the U.S. I know damn well that they need a lot more things before a silly, meaningless name change.

The district also said it was forming a committee to revise its curriculum on human reproduction. Mr. Roosevelt said the group will study the possibility of adding contraception to the curriculum.

They're a bunch of no-hopers. Now with new letterhead.

They will study the POSSIBILITY of adding contraception to the curriculum? Well, I suppose that's faint hope, anyhow.

I really don't get it. I learned about contraception in school when I was in grade 7. If I hadn't learned how to properly use a condom in that class in grade 7, I would never have known how. I learned it nowhere else.

And I didn't have to use that knowledge until I was 18, contrary to the popular belief that kids who learn about contraception run right out and lose their virginity.

I'm gay. The school pretended my kind did not exist, much less teach us about gay sex.

They'll never fix any of it, though.
