Congratulations!

A republic is born

quote:
Lawmakers in Nepal voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to abolish the country's 239-year-old monarchy, turning the world's only Hindu kingdom into its newest republic.

Members of the country's newly elected constituent assembly cast their votes inside a converted convention centre in the ancient Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, as thousands of people celebrated in the streets outside.

Indeed.

Btw, is the current(and now outgoing)monarch of Nepal the same guy that wasted most of the Nepalese royal family during dinner a few years ago?

If so, what're they gonna do with him?

That was Dipendra. He died in 2001 of a gunshot wound to the head. Not much more they can do to him now.

Thanks for the info.

I'd forgotten that he only got to be cabbage head of state for three days.

Will Gynendra have to go into exile now, btw? That's what happened to the Euromonarchs that lost their crowns, IIRC.
