I'm not quite sure what to make of this, but I wandered upon in on the CBC webpage, and thought it might be worth posting.

quote:
BEIJING - The Chinese government has banned businesses from using nudity as a promotion for their services or goods, taking aim at restaurants offering sushi meals on naked women.

*snip*

The restaurant's owners said they wanted to introduce Japanese food culture to Chinese people.

Authorities say the practice violated laws on food sanitation in addition to infringing on women's rights.

I heard that on the radio overhere yesterday. I understand that this has been a trend in Japan for some time. I don't quite understand the appeal myself, but as long as proper labour standards are enforced, and the woman is clearly choosing this line of work herself, I don't see this as being problematic. As for hygiene, well as long as she's showered, I don't see why it would be unhygenic.

This is actually not good for sushi - the body heat warms the fish!

Sushi should never be chilled: it hardens the rice.

Also, nude women!

Little did he know at the time, but Magoo's words would cause a run on refrigerated supermarket sushi by easily-confused impotent men. -- Canadian Food Retailing, August 2005 issue.

Actually, I like it when my sushi doesn't fall apart into tiny pieces while I am trying to eat it...

That's why sushi is at below room temperature, and hardened rice causes it to fall apart.

When I serve sushi, I make my own - it really isn't difficult. In any Chinatown (and probably big grocery stores) you can buy the mat to roll it and the sheets of seaweed, sticky rice, etc.

A friend made an intriguing vegetarian sushi (child-friendly) with peanut butter, rice and pickled greens.

The only unclothed being lurking about at sushi time is Renzo, and with his sleek fur coat, I wouldn't describe him as naked...

I have to admit I would certainly give it a whirl, but not in the context of a business lunch.
