How much will your daughter expect you to spend on her own designer outfits after she dresses up her doll in everything from a Gucci jacket to John Galliano high-heeled sandals?

It's all on page 97 of the FQ Magazine (Canada'a new "International Magazine of Style") that the Globe and Mail dropped with a thud on my doorstep this morning.

"FQ" sounds rude.

Think that's rude, there's a clothing line out now called "FCUK".

"FCUK" or French Connection UK has been around for a quite while just not in Canada. Apparently they make a nice cardigan.

Nearly all the Barbie clothes at our house came from garage sales. For that matter, so have some of my daughters' clothes. And mine.

I got an Esprit tank top for $3.25 at a garage sale today.

I'm behind the times with clothing trends, Scout. I hadn't noticed FCUK until March or so, when I was in Toronto looking for work and saw the store near Yonge and Bloor.

I see that store all the time and I am afraid to venture in. I think the Bay or Eatons is now carrying their men's line. I have a feeling the stuff will be nice but too pricey for me.

Wilfred -- that magazine!

I spent a few minutes yesterday doubled up laughing over Barbara Amiel's article. If you haven't read it, you must. Lady Black advises us all what to do if we learn that one of our society friends has bought the same $45,000 jacket (zippers all over the place -- as if) we just did: apparently, we're supposed to co-ordinate by phone so that we never turn up at the same functions dressed identically.

I didn't know that Lady Black had finally made the Best Dressed List -- did you? Bet you feel greatly improved by that knowledge.

She has not become a whole lot more coherent, though, I must say.

I may sue for back injuries caused by lugging in this morning's FQ.

Sometimes I look through it to find the winner of the "most pretentious article" award. But this may be more than I can face. Anyone else?

(P.S. I refuse to start a thread on FQ under Media. That would be to recognize it as a legitimate publication, rather than a throw-away of glossy fashion ads.)

Funny: I didn't get a copy. Not that my feelings are hurt or anything.

I had forgotten that post of mine above, written only a year ago, it seems.

Lordy. It has happened that quickly.

So, is this an annual magazine?

I mean, I doubt it, but that would be typical of the Glob.
