With Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon, the fighting in Gaza has been largely overlooked. But people continue to die daily in the territory, with 103 Palestinians killed so far, and Palestinian fighters continue to fire rockets into Israel.

Late Tuesday, Palestinian militants fired two homemade Qassam rockets from Beit Hanoun, which earlier in the day was vacated by Israeli tanks. The rockets, simple finned tubes carrying just a few pounds of explosives, landed near Sderot, Israel, without causing injuries, according to an Israeli Army spokesman.

The current crisis began with a raid by Palestinian militants on an Israeli Army post, in which two Israeli soldiers were killed and one, Cpl. Galid Shalit, 19, was taken prisoner.

But Palestinians are quick to point out that the dying began long before Corporal Shalit was captured, when what they say was shelling from an Israeli gunboat in early June in response to rocket attacks killed a family of seven while they were picnicking on a northern Gaza beach. Israel denied responsibility.

New York Times

It is amazing how Israel manages to hoodwink the press with all this talk of these Quassam rockets, as if they are comparable to the fully mobilized potential of its army.

Question: When was the last Israeli actually killed by a Quassam rocket?

It's . . . well not amazing, but telling, that the North American media spews the Israeli line that all this started with the capture of the soldiers. Ignoring numerous incidents of killing of Palestinian civilians, such as the beach incident, and the targeted assasination policy practiced by Israel.

Oh damn. Zaklamont started a thread on this yesterday and I closed it along with all his other ones, forgetting that Gaza is a separate issue. Sorry, Zaklamont. Well, feel free to post those posts here instead. I do apologize - it wasn't deliberate.

Not entirely seperate, but worthy of its own thread, I think.

I do think though that the Heboallah attack that began this Israeli assault into Lebanon was inspired by the Israeli re-occupation of Gaza, however.

Oh, I know. I just don't want Zaklamont to think that I closed his thread because I was waiting for someone from "the other side" to start one. I suppose I could close this one and reopen his, but that's a pain. I owe you one, Zaklamont.
