*A message from CUPE local 2950 (UBC support staff) in regards to vote supression and voter intimidation during the current Board of Governors election.

Note: AAPS is Administrative and Professional Staff, the non-union staff association at UBC.
************************************************
Due to an appeal to the Election Committee, the voting deadline was extended to today (Dec. 10) at midnight (online) for the Board of Governors Staff Representative position. (See voting process at end of message)

Deborah Varley, one of our CUPE 2950 members, was endorsed by the CUPE 2950 Executive Committee for this position.

Also, we have filed an appeal to overturn this election because of a number of issues that have been brought to our attention regarding the
process:

1. not all employees received notice or a ballot (refer to the extension above) and some had difficulty accessing the online voting system;

2. not all candidates have had access to communicating with employees through the broadcast e-mail system;

3. one of the AAPS candidates was utilizing university time to campaign in each of the departments and was accompanied by one or more people. Some employees felt intimidated and pressured to vote for this candidate.

If you felt pressured by this candidate, you are encouraged to e-mail Chris Eaton, Senate & Curriculum Services, at [email protected] or call 604-822-8777 within the next few days.

You will be given anonimity with respect to your complaint. This information will be considered by the election committee in reviewing our appeal. They have the power and authority to overturn this election and commence with a new election.
