Strip-search alleged at borderBy Hannah Sutherland
Aug 15 2007
A Canada Border Services officer will appear in court next week after an 18-year-old woman alleged she was inappropriately strip searched in a public washroom at the Douglas border crossing.
A Surrey RCMP investigation in May led to the arrest of Daniel Greenhalgh, 30, who has been charged with sexual assault.
Greenhalgh was released on conditions, including no contact with the woman, and is scheduled to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Aug. 15 for an arraignment hearing.
Greenhalgh has already made two court appearances, on July 17 and 31.
Sgt. Jean Hamm said the Surrey RCMP is continuing the investigation and is open to the possibility others might come forward with allegations.
The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) is cooperating with the RCMP in the investigation, Hamm said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
