Probably because it would have been impossible to do so. Most of what goes on in Iraq never sees daylight. Soldiers are simply unable to access media or other traditional sources of the whistle they need. The power of military superiors to clamp down on information leaks is huge. Apart from monitoring all military phone calls, blogs, email, and other means of communication "for security purposes", commanders can also insure that someone not going along with the game plan will end up doing the most hazardous possible duty. Just as one example, Eden Delgado, who claimed conscientious objector status (it was his legal right to do so) was sent out on night patrol in Iraq without a loaded weapon. This would scare anyone, and might amount to a death sentence.

This is a harbinger of the backlash to come.As American soldiers make their way home, such implosions will be more common, with families and communities paying the price. America will have a taste of that which it has inflicted upon the world. You can't export "freedom" without becoming an importer yourself. (I do feel bad for this girl, as she was mormon, and all of the mormons I've met have been great folk. OTOH, fsck her torturing a$$. )
