This made the front page of the Globe but I haven't heard much about it since.

quote:
Canada's big chocolate-bar makers have been colluding for years to fix prices and stop retailers from offering discounts to consumers, court filings allege.

Senior executives at Hershey Canada Inc., Mars Canada Inc. and Nestlé Canada Inc. met secretly in coffee shops, restaurants and at industry conventions to set prices, the documents say. At one point, the chief executive of Nestlé Canada is alleged to have handed envelopes stuffed with pricing information to a competitor, instructing the person not to be seen picking up the material in his office.

Article here.

This was reported on the same day as the closing of the Moirs chocolate factory in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, which is owned by Hershey.

Not a word in there about the scandal of child labour in the chocolate industry, or that of the insane tarriffs protecting industrialized countries markets from their former colonies, were these to try and commercialize chocolate themselves.
Please buy only Fair Trade chocolate - and tell retailers...

And we have child labour in our own hemisphere and all. Our stoogeocrats should remember that when talking trade with these repressive U.S. or western influenced hell holes violating the UN child rights declaration.

What I find astounding about this case and others is the already existing latitude business and politicians enjoy within the law. When they are caught actually outside the law, we must view it as just the tip of the iceberg.
