Some basic facts about Palliser Furniture

Palliser is Manitoba's largest private-sector employer, with over 3,000 workers in Manitoba alone...and more world-wide. It's owners present themselves as reform-minded capitalists who donate profits to good causes. How about the good cause of their own employees? Apparently THAT slipped under their radar.

After laying off hundreds of employees, the owners of Palliser have imposed a different work system that is draining the life blood out of those that remain.

Sweating, piece work, intense speed-up, incentives to cover up injury benefits, lowering of wage ceilings for piece work, etc., etc., these are the realities for Palliser employees.

It takes EIGHT YEARS to get any more than the legal minimum for vacations at Palliser.

It is time to build a union at Palliser!

P.S. Palliser is one of the worst pollutors in Manitoba...and that is saying a lot with the ore extraction and hogwash hog barns poisoning our environment....check out the Environment Canada data. BTW, there used to be a listing of the worst pollutors in Manitoba somewhere on this site...and Palliser was, at one time, the worst. Good corporate citizen indeed.

Right on, brother!

I hope you are also passing this message along to your coworkers. The union drive must start from the workers.

K'pla! In solidarity. All the best to the drive and all those participating in it.

If there's any issue or obstacle that you think could be posted here to which others with some experience might to able to offer any help, go ahead.

Palliser needs to be organized - no question - but until the workers there realize the benefit themselves, it won't happen!! There have been several campaigns over the last 10 years, but none have been successful because the workers feel too beholden to the DeFehrs for hiring them.
The paternalistic system in place is nauseating, as you attested to, but the revolution has to come from within. Maybe we need to "seed" the plants with rabblers!
