MUSLIMS are deserting Labour in droves and are now twice as likely to vote for the Scottish National Party (SNP) as other Scots, new research reveals today.
A study by Glasgow University shows that, between 2001 and 2003, Muslims in Scotland switched away from their traditional support for Labour. Many said their political preferences changed because of the party's stances on foreign policy and the war in Iraq.

I don't seem able to copy and paste from that site, but the article makes another interesting point about the SNP. A commentator observes that it is inconceivable that an English national party, even one more moderate than the present one (BNP), could attract twice as much support among Muslims or Asians as among average voters in England, which shows that the SNP is and is seen to be an unusually inclusive national party.
That is even more true, I feel compelled to add, of the Scottish Socialist Party. Perhaps the Scots of all persuasions who have been so outraged by Tony Blair's stand on the war in Iraq will keep moving left now that they've started.
Another reason for supporting the SSP, of course, is its leader, the dishy Tommy Sheridan.
