The U.K. doesn't have a law protecting people from discrimination on the basis of religion or sexual orientation. But rather than pass both together, lawmakers decided to protect religion only. Downing Street fears that Muslims, whose votes could be the key to saving the seats of many Labour MPs, might feel offended if they were "lumped together" with gay people. Nice.
