Many villagers on the devastated west coast of Thailand lost almost everything in the Dec. 26 tsunami. Now, they may lose their land, too. Large investors are laying claim to prime beach front property -- and they're trying to evict the former residents in the process.

Absolutely appalling. I wonder if the international community will respond as heartily to this injustice as they did right after the tsunami. I doubt it, somehow. How ironic will it be if the money ends up being spent to enrich wealthy land conglomerates and resort developers?

How ironic will it be if that in turn worsens tensions in Thailand, leading to civil war and the complete dispossession and/or death in the crossfire of those same landlords?

Who cares? As long as I can waive the Stars and Stripes in paradise, as I suck back another Budweiser......
Please note my sarcasm
