This BBC story talks about shithead of state Condoleeza Rice's trip to "Brazil, she will then move on to Colombia, Chile, and finally El Salvador."

Here's some "funny" stuff:

quote:
Ms Rice has called for greater efforts to support the democratic process. She has spoken of a twin challenge in Latin America - bolstering democracy and alleviating poverty.

She says the former will help achieve the latter.

and:

quote:
Over the past two decades Latin America has turned to democracy and many governments have followed Washington's formula for economic liberalisation.

But still 100m people here live on less than a dollar a day and the region has the most unequal distribution of wealth in the world.

and

quote:
So, as the secretary of state explains her twin challenge for Latin America, some here prefer to reverse its logic.

They say its prosperity and greater equality that will lead to stronger democracy rather than the other way around.

So, it's typical liberal cant. The Secretary of State of the USA, which has done more to destroy democracy in the area, and support death squads, for half a century, is still presented as being sincerely interested in bringing "democracy" to the region.

This focus on a moronic conception of "democracy" re: elections ("demonstration elections") and a retrograde capitalist press, is supposed to lead naturally to a surging capitalist economy.

If this capitalist model wants to succeed, supposedly it obeys the "Washington Consensus" that Washington-IMF stooges never apply to themselves.

Of course, this twin policy of corrupt, cynical politics and impractical, neo-liberal economic theories is doomed to fail.

The sad thing is that real democracy would bring economic prosperity to the world. But the whole process would spin out of control of the liberal internationalists and the authoritarians in Washington and Latin America, so it is not to see the light of day.

I don't understand why the people of Latin America, Central America and South America don't just tell Condi to stay the fuck out of their affairs. Who invited her, anyway?

Y'know, that's a darn good question.

Actually, there is more to this than meets the eye.

Yesterday afternoon on Newsworld, just before Politics, and on The Hour, they had news report on about Venezuela and President Chavez. Apparently, he is screaming bloody murder, perhaps literally, about the USA invading his country because he has had recent oil talks with China. And about them trying to kill him.

He has stopped USian Venezuelian military personal exchanges. And is concerned about USiamn military build up along the Brazil and Columbia borders. He seems to think that is why Condi is in SA.

Apparently he seems to think so, and now with the report out today saying Syria does not have Iraq's wmd's, I figure they are deflecting people's attention away from the ME. And are perhaps going to move it to SA as part of the whole united Americas project.

He stated if they are successful at killing him, it won't happen. He says numerous attempts have so far failed.

I remember Maurice Bishop coming to Washington to make the case that a 10,000 ft. runway being built [with some Cuban laborers] was for tourism, as Granada could not land 747's. He startled reporters by asking the CIA not to kill him. He rejected Bush Sr.'s claim that the runway was for military purposes. He then went home and was killed.

I cannot source the interview where he pled for his life; I saw the footage on a Brit doc called "The Herald of Truth."

Chavez would do well to keep making his claims to anyone who'll listen.
