Like most Canadians, I'm lost when it comes to figuring out my fuel economy. Dou any of you know of a site with a converter that I can plug in my litres and kilometres and get miles/imperial gallon? I don't want American gallons, I want Canadian. Sorry to be picky.

Do you have a Mac, Coug? 'Coz I have a *great* desk accessory called "Macverter" that is JUST the ticket. If you have a pee cee, though, sorry but I can't help.

Thanks. The converter that Anchoress posted worked.

The feature that I'd like to see on every dashboard is an indicator that shows fuel consumption rate. I mean that it should display how much fuel I am using right now. I've heard of this as an after market gizmo, but only seen one sold as standard equipment on a new vehicle, the Toyota Prius. I suspect that a display like this would change the way I drive by simply showing me where I waste fuel.

I found a nice simple easy to use calculator. Just enter km's travelled and litres and calculate. Fuel Economy Calculator. Thanks to the New Zealander who put this up.

If you're like me and you're a masochist who wants to work out the unitary conversions yourself, going from miles per gallon to liters per 100 klicks goes as follows:

miles / gal * (1 gal / 3.785 L) * (1.609 km / mile) = km / L

Take the reciprocal and multiply by 1 / 100, which yields L / km * (1 km / .01 km)

The last factor is dimensionless, but forces it from L/km to L/100 km.
