Remember Elian?

He's 14 now and just joined the communist youth.

I'm speculating he did so under threat.

They told him to join, or else they would send him back to the U.S.

Horrors! They probably mentioned Florida and dangled a chad in front of his face.

I can no longer sit and back and allow, communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist subversion, and the international communist conspiracy, to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

And I'm just not sure how I'd hold up under torture, Mandrake.

Ahh Fidel, you have displayed an amazing toughness... still, if they made twinkies part of the mix....

It's pretty amusing, actually, for the BBC to be quoting Cuba's Rebel Youth for a story.

By the way, as most active babblers know, I've started a thread, that is now over 100 posts and into a second thread, on the very important issue of rounding up the Communists!

Unfortunately, the BBC story isn't quite idiotic enough to merit addition to that thread. Only REALLY pathological anti-communism, the kind that sometimes causes one to laugh out loud, belongs on that thread. There's plenty of that to go around for a very, very, very, long time.

I must admit, however, that a photograph of a trembling Elian facing a machine-gun toting gunman is a clever touch on a story ostensibly about the boy joining a youth political organization. I'm sure it will help readers of the BBC website to come to the "correct" conclusions while adjusting the strap on their Pith Helmets. God save the Queen.

Sorry, gang, since there are no independent organizations in Cuba, it is no big deal when Elian or any other kid joins up.

If he had a choice at all, which is impossible to ascertain.

Don't you get tired regurgitating this propaganda crap?

Far better he joined a good political movement that doesn't use propaganda.

Maybe we'll have a thread on babble: Lynn Cheney becomes Young Republican! Then everyone can write how wise she is to join the Party they support.

So you agree that the USA and Cuba are fundamentally the same when it comes to joining political organizations. Finally something about Cuba we can agree on.

So you agree that you have put words into my mouth by the "so you agree" technique?

You mean like their free choice in Haiti to chow down on clay in order to stave off hunger just 55 miles from Cuba?

And we know now that even eating sanitized dirt in Haiti has become a luxury item on store shelves. Haiti, the "freest trading nation in the Carribe", according to the wolves in Warshington. Little pigs, little pigs, let me come IN!!! noooooo not by the hairs of our chinny chin-chins!!

The Flip Side of the Communist youth

That being the website for the Republican Youth Movement, which goes by the acronym RYM.

[As in RYM within the SDS. Which became RYM I and RYM II....]
