Been awhile since I have posted. Having returned from China, I took an aircraft structural job in Victoria. A big mistake This company has turned out to be very nonprogressive, negative, etc.

The floor manager challenged the quality of my work and when I showed him that he was wrong and when my direct supervisor backed me, the harrassment started. You're too slow, people constantly peering over your shoulder, nitpicking, etc. And then, the ultimate: being asked to learn to operate a special machine on your own time and for free, even though the company has a considerable training budget. They also knocked my wages back $2 an hour.

I have previously worked on $35 million dollar jet fighters and got good references from Bombardier for my work.

Has anyone experienced this kind of crap in their working life? And what did they do about it?

In the end, when a whole company (as opposed to just an individual in the company) is like that, the only solution is to find a new job.

A good website for more information about your legal rights is WorkRights.ca, sponsored by the Canadian Labour Congress. Good luck.

I assume from this that you don't have a union around to back you up. I mean, I can't imagine a union that would let anyone get away with arbitrarily cutting an individual's wages. But geeze, maybe I'm sheltered--that can't be legal, can it?

Unless they're in league with crypto-capitalists like Glen Clark or Lucien Bouchard.

It's what's known as an "unfair workplace" and, unfortunately, the more you complain the worse it will get. I worked in such a place a few years back. The abuse, the language, the putdowns, it was unbelievable! Best thing you can do is find another job. The emotional toll is not worth it.
