France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez will retire next year after becoming increasingly disillusioned with his sport.

"I'll call a halt in 2006 from all football," Barthez told reporters on Thursday as France prepared for World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Israel.

Interesting. His website doesn't mention a thing. I wonder what he was talking about when he said that the world of football can be nasty.

Personally, I thought he'd been off his game since going to England, and at the same time, Man U just wasn't Man U without Peter Schmeichel.

I dunno about that website. It says he plays for Manchester United, but he's been Marseille's keeper this season.
