Also, meades would you like to drop by the rabble office? You likely have many fabulous plans for the day, but thought you might like a modest tour of rabble central. By the way, the quote from Mrs Nap, as it appears on the back cover of Grey is: quote: Her written work is done carefully and she tries to do it neatly. She is beginning to express herself by writing short sentences ... She tries very hard to do her best ... She is a co-operative little girl and is very eager to please.
That last sentence is a big hit with friends, loved ones and work associates.

Congratulations on that superb review, judym -- formidable! I hope that your "delicacy, humour, and sympathy" are being piqued as you watch us babblers struggle against "the prison-house of official cliche, the banalities used to express, and oversimplify, the daily incongruities of contemporary life." (Re the Grope's playing with your name: c'mon, your clan provokes that on purpose, no? Seriously, I think something similar has happened to just about everyone I know who's been reviewed in the Grope -- the missed acknowledgement, or especially misattributions -- someone there seems to have decided that M&S is the default Canadian publisher ...) And thanks, Dawna, for the tip-off -- I've been listless in my review reading lately, and I would've missed it without you.

Thanks skdadl. Here's what I wrote to the Globe (which is not to say that the letter will be printed): Re: "Nothing rural about these Macdonalds" (January 5, 2002, Globe and Mail Books section, page D10) - What a lovely review by Kevin Chong of my book, Grey. And what a witty pairing with Mark Macdonald's new book, Home. Unfortunately, temptation got the better of someone, though: our last names are so terribly similar, but are not the same. (I've been reciting "M-a-c, capital D" since I can remember.) This is a quibble, though. The more serious error was that photographer Graham Hollings did not receive any credit for his work, yet the image took up an impressive portion of the page. This lack of acknowledgement seems to apply to most of the photos found in this section. Curious. [ January 07, 2002: Message edited by: judym ]

quote: The semesters go from early September to very late January
Yes, now I remember, because the school year goes to late June. Silly me. It's a remarkable thought that this June, it'll be an even 20 years since I left high school. In real years, therefore, I'll be 20 on Sept. 4, 2002 -- that day in 1982 being my first day at U of T. [ January 17, 2002: Message edited by: 'lance ]
