Silvio has done it again. This time, he has offended the president of Finland by boasting that he won her over to having Italy host the EU food standards agency through his Latin lover prowess. Oops, he's done it again.

I know "gaffe by Berlusconi" is right up there with "sunny and warm in Rome" or "Pope denounces gay marriage", but such an "own goal" as an opposition political party put it, is always worthy of mention.

Actually, it is logical for the food standards agency to be located in Italy, as the FAO headquarters is in Rome.

Eeeewwwwww...

quote:
In Italy, Renzo Lusetti of the Margherita party called it "another Berlusconi own goal", while lawmaker Antonio Pietro described the remarks as "inappropriate".

According to the Ilta-Sanomat newspaper in Finland, hundreds of readers had sent in emails calling the remarks sexist while Lasse Lehtinen, a Finnish social democrat MP, speculated that Mr Berlusconi's recent facelift "may have affected his brain".

It must be rather embarrassing for the Italians. I remember one professor who'd make fun of Berlesconi with Italian students, repeating some of his gaffes about "attractive secretaries" and whatnot.

Even without his gaffes and corruption, that silly grin, the arrogance... ugh. I find Berlesconi rather repulsive actually.

His facelift may have affected his brain -- hahahaha! I can use that one.

Remember that we decided to use the term "a Berlusconi" or "to do / to commit a Berlusconi" to mean something utterly witless and probably sexist, racist, or otherwise hideously privileged?

That was back when he spurned an Italian vegetable seller who was trying to express solidarity with him by telling the guy that they had nothing in common?

How can this appalling man still be in office?
