Does anyone know the median and average income in Canada off hand? I mean income, not just wages. Is it a big difference?

You could try Stats Can.

Or the Sask. gov't.

Quick answer: average $29,769, median $22,120, as of 2001 census.

Significantly skewed, in other words.

What gives? In 1997, it was $31,000 a year.

Family median incomes in Canada

Median household incomes in Canada

Overall statistical summary.

Single income earners, no kids.

DrC - I suspect the anomoly arises from the definition of worker and wage. If you dig around the Sask. website you'll see that the overall averages include anyone over the age of fifteen that reports any income. That includes people that reported income but did not necessarily work. See the grey box on page 2 of this report on the same site. Without trying to wade thru the definitions in the other websites (Stats Canada is particularly hopeless at explaining what they did) I would expect there may be a different definition in use there.
