Cleanup in aisle 6!

"Paramedics called to the store found VanLester unconscious on top of a DVD player, surrounded by shoppers seemingly oblivious to her, said Mark O'Keefe, a spokesman for EVAC Ambulance."

Good thing she fell on top of a DVD player or she would have never got one.

"Ellzey said Wal-Mart officials called later Friday to ask about her sister, and the store apologized and offered to put a DVD player on hold for her."

the most they would do was to put a dvd player on hold for her?!??!

In all fairness to the store, she was unconscious so they can't be sure if she was trying to snag it for herself or if that's just where she happened to fall.

"We are very disappointed this happened," Burk said. "We want her to come back as a shopper."
This statement represents the extreme dehumanization that capitalism has caused in our society. To the Walmart people, the woman is not a person with feelings and a family...she is nothing more than a "shopper" who could improve Walmart's bottom line.

Betcha.. the media will find one of the shoppers who trampled this woman.
The shopper will now be in therapy for a "shopping disorder" that she/he only clued into after this incident.
The shopper will become a media darling, giving guest appearances on all news and talk shows.
The focus will shift completely away from Walmart and their responsibility to provide "safe shopping conditions".
Americans will have a new disease to expalin their shopping frenzy.
And not a god damn thing will change!

Later, it will be learned that Walmart gave free DVD players to the trampled woman.

No doubt something that can be 'controlled' with a designer drug.

They were going to charge her for breaking the DVD but Walmert's PR people told them to just put it on hold for her and let her deal with customer service when she's feeling better.

Wal-Mart is working on a solution

quote:
By the same token, supermarket shelves will 'know' what they're carrying, display the correct price automatically - and alert the warehouse when stocks are running low (important since $30 billion of sales are 'lost' each year because goods are out of stock.) And checkout queues will disappear from supermarkets because you will just wheel your trolley past a RFID-reading station and pay the amount on the display. No unloading, scanning and packing.

...no trampling.

Well, maybe a little trampling.

Definitely trampling once someone figures out how to hack the system to display TV sets for 99 cents.

Ms. VanLester has a knack for suffering -- or feigning -- injuries at retail establishments. She has made numerous injury claims, including nine prior claims against Wal-Mart. Ms. VanLester may be incredibly unlucky, and entirely truthful in her claims. Or she may be what lawyers sardonically call a "frequent filer."

the rest.

Some day, filing frivolous lawsuits against companies in the hope of becoming an effort-free millionaire will be considered a form of full time employment. You heard it here first.

Well if there are already lawyers who make millions solely by taking 50-60% or even more, of the judgment money from class action suits, then I don't doubt it.

First it's not a class action and secondly I think the norm is more in the 30-35% range.

according to a December 6 wire story, Ms. VanLester has a knack for suffering -- or feigning -- injuries at retail establishments.

What wire story? Who wrote it? Where did this information come from? The CNN article ignores all of this. Call me suspicious, but why are they leaving out such basic information?

I am well aware of what a class action is. I am well aware that this is NOT one. I. was. drawing. a. parallel.

I am also aware of what the norm is. HOWEVER, there are some (Harvey Strosberg is one; he practices in Ontario) who generally take a much higher percentage. Capiche?
