Normally, I wouldn't re-post something from Eschaton, but this,
(verso here) is just appalling. It's a flyer sent by the Republican National Committee to electors in Arkansas.

What is so shocking is that it goes beyond simple partisan politics to claim that "other citizens" (ie, Liberals), without reference to any political affiliation, are colluding to threaten your way of life.

At exactly what point is the Republican Party going to have its "let's highlight Chrétien's facial disfigurement" moment, when the American electors say that that's simply too much?

Impossible to predict. I'd have thought the moment came at the Republican National Infomercial, when Zell Miller, one-time Democrat, practically accused the Democrats of treason based on the fact that they're... actually running a candidate for President.

For a few days a few people, even a few Republicans, made the proper shocked noises, but it all seems forgotten now.

Of course. What was I thinking? That moment will never come, obviously.

As for "starting" a civil war, you could argue that they already started it back in the 1980s, when so many conservative foundations started spending so much money on getting their messages into the media, academia, whatever. Pat Buchanan openly declared war -- "culture war" -- at the 1992 convention. Notwithstanding the fact that Clinton won and the R's distanced themselves from Buchanan -- and vice versa -- the war went on, with the consequences we know.

Buchanan, in retrospect, was a John the Baptist figure, like Goldwater before him.

You're right. In the context of a war, all of this makes sense.

Something else just dawned on me. We're told that a fair number of the neo-cons started out as Marxists or indeed Trotskyists. Well, as the 60s radical movement was winding down, some disppointed radical adopted a Maoist image and said that what radicals now needed to do was go on "a long march through the institutions." That's just what the neo-cons ended up doing.

Edit:

It still might come, you never know. Even Nixon went too far, eventually. But what happens after that moment comes, is what I want to know. For some reason I suspect a good 95% of what the neo-cons and escapees from the Milton Friedman Institute for the Criminally Insane have put in place over the last generation will stay in place for the next generation.

Wondered if that flyer was going to show up over here. Byron posted this at 365 almost a week ago, and there's been semi-serious talk on that forum about "civil war between the red states and the blue states" for a couple of weeks now.

I kid you not, my Yankee friends are getting seiously scared as the threats against them become increasingly apparent and more blatant. And some, like Byron, are becoming more beligerant as a result, and I can't say as I blame him much.

After seeing that... can you?

No, nothing wrong with Eschaton. It's just re-posting stuff from other blogs. It could be repetitious.

Ummm... here's a story on it...

GOP Fesses Up To Anti-Gay Mailing

quote:
(Washington) The Republican National Committee has finally admitted that it was responsible for a mass mailing that claimed Democrats would permit gay marriage and ban the Bible.

365Gay.com reported last week that the mailing had a return address of the Republican National Committee, but Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie said last week that he wasn't aware of the mailing, but said it could be the work of the RNC. (story)

Friday, the New York Times reported that in an e-mail message, Christine Iverson, a spokesperson for the RNC, finally confirmed that the party had sent the mailings.

Here's the rest

Oh, they are accomplished, No Yards. We're not talking about the dumb-assed, simple-minded lies of Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, John Stossel, Pat Robinson, The Heritage Foundation, WorldNetDaily, FrontPage Magazine, NewsMax, Towhnhall, Regnery, FoxNews....somebody stop me!...

..this is the RNC we're talking about.
