quote:A HUGE explosion has destroyed buildings at a graduate chemistry school in eastern France, leaving many people injured, at least one seriously.
The explosion occurred at 12.25 French time in the city of Mulhouse close to the border with Germany. Reports indicate that the explosion happened on the ground floor of a three storey building at the Ecole Nationale Superieur de Chimie de Mulhouse, one of France's "Grandes Ecoles".
Witnesses report the explosion was followed by a fire and a huge cloud of black smoke

Only one death so far, but the toll could rise. Mulhouse is in Alsace. Seems it started in a lab, and is most likely accidental, but obviously there is a problem with safety procedures, in such a prestigious Haute École where presumably students should have known to follow such procedures.
