Around New Year's I predicted that Islam Karimov would be the Saddam Hussein of the Bush twins' generation. I keep wishing somebody would prove me wrong.

Moving further afield, I should note that some of the other central Asian republics have got similar regimes.

However, it seems that they do not always like each other, if I may be forgiven for using the nation-as-person metaphor.
