It looks like an empty internet promise designed to lure you into subscribing (i.e. paying) for that damn newsletter. Forget you ever found it and continue on your merry way.

Why are my Canadian government royalty cheques issued on a bank in Nigeria?

I am so sick and tired of getting these scam emails. I made the mistake of allowing one of my email addresses to be on a public US academic list and I really regret that move. How many people really fall for these scams?

I like how it starts out: "Canada's Government giveaways are even written into the country's constitution", and citing a mention of "equalization payments". If only I could personally pose as an underpriviledged province.

Apparently this fancy Canadian "Canadian Royalty Checks" program is actually "income trusts", the subject of some current controversy. It is amusing how they equate this with social programs. [Well it IS just like a social program, except that the recipients are wealthy investors, and the money is siphoned off from companies, instead of from tax revenues.]

Here's Globe and Mail business article about the letter, and income trusts.

At least you're not getting hundreds of emails for viagra, intenet dates and penis enlargers, like I am. Of course, if I weren't getting this spam, I wouldn't get any emails at all. So I guess it's not so bad. Never mind.
