Scotland shows the way:

quote:
Been there; done that.

Scotland is increasingly regarded as a kind of next-door Scandinavia, where progressive ideas are flourishing.

If Scotland has trouble taking itself seriously, others don't.

lol, I AM a Scot, and I would like to let you know what the notable Scottish author, Irving Welsh has to say to describe who we are:

"It's shite being Scottish,
we are the lowest of the low,
the scum of the fucking earth,
the most wretched, pathetic, servile trash that was ever shat onto civilization.
Some people hate the English,
I don't they are just wankers.
WE on the other hand have been colonized by wankers,
We could not even find a decent culture to be colonized by.
It's a shite state of afairs to be in Tommy,
and all the fresh air in the world won't make any fucking difference."

I don't mean to be self depreciating, and I do believe that with devoloution (which I was in Scotland for in 1997) has advanced the culture, and if I could live there instead of here, I most certainly would.

I just hope our culture can resist assimilation by empire as well as Scotland and Ireland have. They lost their statehood for several centuries, but they never lost their nationhood.

And now, both Ireland and Scotland sound much more progressive- and more successful- than England. Interesting.

Scottish Anglicans back same-sex unions

Good for them. On the other hand: Scottish Anglicans? What the hell?

I'm an Anglican with Scotch blood. My grandmother and mum were hardcore Scotch Presbyterians. I never did join the Presbyterians, myself.

Just a reminder Boom Boom:

A Scot is a person from Scotland. Scotch is a popular beverage with deranging side effects.

Point taken, JB. If you have an opportunity to hear me ramble on, with my thick Scots brogue, you'd recognise me as one with a least a minor claim to Scots heritage. Me mum's ancestry is all Scots, me dad's is French. There's some Hugenout ancestry but I've never done a family tree. I used to drink Scotch, but, realizing this is a hard world, decided to give it up and keep what remaining brain cells have not already been turned into mush.
