John Tillman tried to kill his mother (allegedly)

quote:
Mr. Tillmann, then a business consultant, was the campaign manager for Reform party candidate Jim Donohue in Halifax West in the October 1993 federal election. After Mr. Donohue placed third, Mr. Tillmann sent a letter to the runner-up, Tory Joel Matheson, in which he expressed pleasure that Mr. Matheson hadn’t won.

That letter, which eventually got into the hands of local media, raised controversy for its negative references to some women’s and minority groups.

...

Late last month, Halifax RCMP arrested Mr. Tillmann, 47, and laid numerous charges against him in Dartmouth provincial court.

Six of the charges involve his mother, Anne Noreen Gregory, who was living with him at his Guildwood Drive home. They include: attempted murder, assault with a weapon (a pencil), assault causing bodily harm, common assault, failing to provide adequate care and failing to provide the necessities of life.

Mr. Tillmann was also charged with threatening violence to his stepmother to keep her from communicating with his mother, possessing an unlicensed .32-calibre rifle and brass knuckles, and carelessly storing the rifle. He was released on a $10,000 recognizance and ordered to have no contact with his mother and other relatives, but was arrested again last Thursday after being accused of visiting his hospitalized mother at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax.

Looks like the Cons are losing some of their base.

Yea, but give them credit. They're much better at avoiding misanthropic remarks - like those of Tillman - that once drew the ire of the Atlantic Jewish Council and the CACSW (Status of Women). In 100 years they might work up to supporting the goal of women's equality. That's progress by any other name!

hopefully all parties will have such progress in the next 100 years.

All but the NDP have been complete and utter failures in this regard.

As far as Tillman goes he was an ass and is an ass.

I am sure if we looked we could find a similar lib who has done a similar thing

They're like our "Republicans" (I put the word in quotes in recognition that in most of the world, "republican" refers to a principled person who opposes monarchical leaders)who believe, as Democratic congressman Barney Frank once put it, that "life begins at conception and ends at birth".
