Apparently even Harper is to the left of the CJC and Bnai Brith on this issue. I wonder how all these Zionists who became Conservatives after Harper said he supported Israel no matter what are going to take this.

The sad thing is there isn't much of a difference between the parties. Jack Layton could have said the exact thing as the foreign affairs minister.

It's not actually even saying that the Conservatives are being too pro-Israel (which they did say in the Lebanon war)...they're actually just saying they're not doing enough to stop violence on both sides and bring both sides to the negotiating table.

That NDP official response is very disappointing.

The first part of this statement makes the NDP sound like hypocrites given their support of Harper's move to pull out of the Durban Anti-Racism Review process (UNHRC). Nor has the NDP raised it's voice in protest whenever the Harper government has voted against UN resolutions condemning Israeli actions against the Palestinians.

quote:
The NDP condemns the failure of the Conservative Government to use its diplomatic offices at the United Nations...

The following excerpt is also rich. That blockade was a severe example of "collective punishment" from day one. Israel has been contravening the convention for months.

quote:
We also urge the government of Israel to cease its blockade of Gaza since, during the present state of escalated violence, the blockade is pushing the civilian health system of Gaza to the brink of collapse, and is running the risk of contravening the prohibition against “collective punishment”.

Did Layton and the NDP miss the news cycle when the Palestinians rightfully stormed the wall so they could get provisions in Egypt?

Egypt recloses wall

Very unlikely that Pat Martin would allow any criticism of Israel.

Israel is...

..running the risk of contravening the prohibition against “collective punishment”.
