I would laugh, but stupid right wing ideas have a way of spreading like a bad virus... (remember the bylaws enacted by places like Las Vegas to fine people for giving sandwiches to the homeless? Now Calgary fines them for putting their feet up on a bench)

A New York store owner is doing this:

quote:
Homeless sued for blocking store
An antiques dealer has sued four homeless people, seeking to keep them away from his store on a posh shopping street because, he says, they alienate customers and block window displays.

Store owner Karl Kemp also seeks US$1 million from the four, named in the lawsuit as John Doe, Bob Doe, John Smith and Jane Doe.

...Kemp said he decided to sue after complaints to police brought no changes. He also said he was concerned about the health of one of the three men.

"You and I pay taxes in New York City, and some of that is to maintain decent shelters. And he should take advantage of that," Kemp said.

Advocates for the homeless called the lawsuit hardhearted.

Here's Karl's web page and his contact information, in case you want to tell hime what a swell guy he is...

Well, obviously the guy isn't going to collect the million or even a dollar from these people.

So, his intention is to get them to go elsewhere. So, he's not really suing them. He's trying to raise awareness of his problem and their problem.

Now, let's say that you are the store owner and you are losing 20% of your business as a result of the homeless people pissing in front of your store.

What would you do differently?

He should quit blaming everybody else for being where he is, save up to be rich, and move to a higher class part of town.

These whiney business people always blaming other people for their problems. Really, if he was really worth anything he would move to another neighborhood. But obviously he is just blaming his own laziness and stupidity and bad busines practice upon the homeless people.

Hard to say where would be higher class, though. I'm surprised he didn't just pay them to go away.

Except Pal is right in this instance. There's an old saying in civil law 'you can't collect blood from a stone' that surely applies.

The shop owner's target is not the homeless people. His real aim is to light a fire under the poo-bahs at City Hall. Whether that's right or wrong is really the question, not the bogus lawsuit.
