A friend of ours has new twin granddaughters born this morning. Not identical twins, fraternal.

Fraternal? Girls? Is there a better word? I've never seen a reference to "sororal twins."

Isn't that happy. Please convey my sororal greetings and congratulations.

I don't see why we shouldn't say sororal. I say it sometimes. It takes a bit of practice, but then many good improvements do.

How about "dizygotic"? Nice and gender neutral, plus it's the accepted technical term. If technical terms scare you, you can always say "non-identical".

I have "fraternal" twin girls I use dizygotic occasionally, but no one knows what that means so I just say it was a two for one deal, but no they are not identical.

Doesn't this thread violate the rules somewhere? I simply cannot believe that Audra allows a thread announcing new arrivals without photo documentation of the cute little younguns.

I always thought the term was "sibling twins." Or did I dream up that up myself?

Let's have a contest. Wilf, do you think your friend will let the winner name the twins?
