http://www.guardian.co.uk/elsewhere/journalist/story/0,7792,981693,00.html Women on Waves is a Dutch group, the brainchild of a feminist doctor, that provides abortions at sea. Now they are taking on Church-ridden Poland!

Hey, I've heard of this group before, I think. Weren't they doing that in (or just beyond, I guess) Ireland as well?

Of course, with my luck it probably says something about it in the article, which I'm about to read now. Nothing like responding before reading the article, huh?

Edited to say:

Ha! Whaddaya know - first sentence.

Yeah. Although they never did perform any abortions on the visit to the Irish shore (not for any sinister reason..I think there was some issue) - it ended up being just a publicity/information visit. However it was very important - it helped to bring together activists in advance of the referendum that was held last year. I canvassed a lot in that vote, it was shortly before I came to Toronto, and it was a bizarre experience. There were two NO campaigns; a pro-choice one and a hard-right pro-life one (the proposal was to close a narrow loophole in the generally restrictive laws - the other NO campaign wanted them to be even more restrictive). As you could imagine there was no co-operation between the two campaigns..they just called us baby-killers in the street.
