The Bank of Canada has been found guilty of violating its obligation to bargain in good faith when it tried to use the spurious ground of "privacy" to prevent the bargaining agent from getting basic information about the members' salary and premium structure. Chalk one up to the good guys.

quote:
PSAC: In a victory for the 33 security guards attempting to secure a first collective agreement with the Bank of Canada, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has ruled that the Bank has violated its obligation to bargain in good faith.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) lodged the unfair labour practice complaint in the face of the Bank’s persistent refusal to provide the union with information about the guards’ salary and premium structure....

PSAC National President John Gordon says “this decision shows that employers that try to hide behind privacy legislation to avoid the duty to give the Union information during bargaining are on the wrong side of the law.”

The Bank's representatives must have got the Conservative disease. Secrecy is for police states, not a "democratic" country.

I can just picture some scabby security guard ordering news journalists out of the building on the grounds they're trespassing on "private property", like Ontario Lottery and Gaming pulled with Fifth Estate reporter Gillian Findlay.

You mean the Liberal disease don't you. They were all hired under the last few Liberal governments.

Maybe they picked up the tactics used against a former Rabble employee?

With all that sarcasm I can't tell if you're taking the side of the Bank in its nefarious and illegal actions or the side of the security guards, scooter.

You agree, it must be the Liberals.

As for the sarcasm, it works best when based on fact. It is amazing how an organization, big or small, can treat their staff so badly.

Funny how this was not a problem when the Liberals were in power, and it only became a problem under Harper's regime, eh?
