Let's look at the bright side of things and tragedies! Sure, this pales compared to the devastating London bombings, but the openly gay Paris mayor's overwhelming disappointment at losing the Olympic Games to London, largely due to Chirac's gaffe and blunder, in my humble opinion, can become a win-win situation for him if he accepts to sponsor the 2010 Gay Games in his Fair City! That would enable him to not only recover but to strive for another sports event, albeit much more modest, yet so much more gay and exhuberant where he will be able to show the world his rainbow colours more than ever before.

Personally, as a Montréalaise old enough to remember 1976, I think not being awarded the Olympics was a godsend for Paris (it would be in bad taste to compare it to bombings, and there have been similar bombings in Paris, in the métro and chez Tati (a low-end department store similar to "Honest Ed's" in Toronto). We are still playing for our bloody Olympics, and that includes workers who weren't even born back then.
Obviously there is no way of knowing if Delanoë will still be in office in 2010, but sure, it would be great if he hosted the Gay Games. I don't think they are a bottomless pit like the Olympics, and they are fun.

That's all fine and dandy, but what about the divisive event that had Montréal's bid turned into the Out Games because Chicago was awarded the Gay Games? If Paris does indeed sponsor the 2010 Gay Games, what is the future for the Outgames?
On le saura la prochaine fois.

Did I mention that former Mitterrand Culture Minister and present openly gay Pas-de-Calais deputy Jack Lang stated that, if he were elected president of the French Republic in 2007, he would legalize safe-sex ... same-sex marriage?

I'm very happy to hear that Jack Lang is openly gay now - everyone knew he was gay, or as people said stupidly "a confirmed bachelor". This would indicate either a) a change in political/social climate in France or b) that Jack has found true love, and is far from a "confirmed bachelor". Either or both would be nice!
He was a most interesting Minister of Culture... controversial, as some found him too "trendy" and superficial, but he sure got people - outside the élite - talking about cultural matters.

I couldn't agree more. The delightfully gay 'célibataire endurci' was instrumental in the new Paris architectural look and seems not set to go beyond his "quel bel homme" appreciations and do for France what Zapatero did for Spain and well, yes, Martin did for Canada.
