Allons enfants de la patrie!

You gotta give it to the French: they really knew how to start a revolution! So who's gonna quibble, for today, anyway, about a few problems with the follow-though?

And there are few revolutionary anthems that can get the blood running in quite the way of La Marseillaise.

Here are the history, the words, and the music.

Aux armes, citoyens! Formez vos bataillons!

Marchons, marchons!

Merci.

Bonne fête nationale à tous les autres citoyens et citoyennes.

To have two national holidays in one month...it makes me so...apathetic about nationalism it's hard to describe.

Aux armes et caetera

I'll be predictable and link Olympe de Gouge for starters.

Been humming La Marseillaise all day today... Aux armes, les citoyennes...

quote:
Woman, wake up; the tocsin of reason is being heard throughout the whole universe; discover your rights. The powerful empire of nature is no longer surrounded by prejudice, fanaticism, superstition, and lies. The flame of truth has dispersed all the clouds of folly and usurpation. Enslaved man has multiplied his strength and needs recourse to yours to break his chains. Having become free, he has become unjust to his companion. Oh, women, women! When will you cease to be blind? What advantage have you received from the Revolution? A more pronounced scorn, a more marked disdain.

Wouldn't it be interesting to analyse the style of revolutionary pamphlets, though.
