Japan's ruling party is pursuing drastic revisions to the country's constitution, including rewording the guarantee of gender equality. Women's rights advocates say that if the revisions pass, Japan will return to "a dark period of history."

Wow. And they call themselves the "Liberal Democratic Party"?

But then, I think Vladimir Zhirinovsky's party is called the Liberal Democratic Party as well.

Wow. I had no idea that Japan was so backward in this area. I mean, I knew they still valued traditional communitarian values, but I didn't realize those values were government policy, or had the force of law! Thanks for posting that link, Anchoress..

Well, Japan may be an economic power, but they still have lots of problems. Their next Prime Minister is riding on a wave of popular support for nuclear armament and anti-North Korean policies.
