Armed gangs roamed Haiti yesterday, stealing food from the hungry and hope from entire communities as the poorest country in the Western hemisphere struggled with the aftermath of Hurricane Jeanne. The storm's death toll is now feared to be at least 2,300, and that figure may yet rise appreciably.

The title of this thread are words spoken by Paul Martin. Having participated in an illegal coup against a democratically elected government, Canada now bears some responsibilty for managing the tragedy in that small country. Canadian forces have been implicated in a massacre. Where are they now?

Does anyone here know of a reputable NGO with a presense in Haiti?

Where could one make a donation and be reasonably certain it was going to do some good?

I also would like to know. I'll do some flipping through Yellow Pages soon if no one has a better idea.

I read that the Red Cross has made an appeal for Haiti.

It's quite simple really. The Liberals are paying lip service to yet another issue. Saying one thing whilst doing another (or rather, doing nothing). I suspect that the DART team soldier spoke to the media out of frustration. He knows that time cannot be wasted with such missions.

Well, it could just be about a crafty piece of writing, Lard tunderin'. Notice that none of those sentences is necessarily connected. Maybe Pettigrew "snubbed"; maybe not.

I also would like to see that team go as quickly as possible and I can't imagine why Pettigrew would delay them. But that is a loaded piece of writing.

Right above the headline of Bush being a modern-day Churchill by Peter Worthington. Loaded is right...like a diaper.

Why are they really going to give a rats ass to help these people? No matter what lip service is given the fact of the matter is that of the skin color of the people in Haiti- it's a profiling matter...
