—David OgilvyThe topics as suggested by the proposed heading could be wide ranging.
Its not to say many of the topics have never been discussed on Babble before, its just that future threads could be gathered together in a home that would not really be stretching other existing main headings--as well as highlighting the importance of the heading for a site devoted to "information".
A few areas angles of interest:
*Various propaganda and marketing models in theory and in practice (eg. Orwell, Ellul, Chomsky, Lakoff, Rapaille, etc ).
*Differences and similarities between propaganda messaging in totalitarian (eg fascist or soviet) countries and liberal (or managed) democracies.
*The marketing of products, whether soap or politics, through the irrational.
(There are two very good series available the "The Persuaders" (free video on the PBS site) and the Brit (Freudian) "The Century of the Self" available on google video.)
*Rhetorical strategies and rhetorical fallacies
*Changes in persuasion tactics in changing media: print, tv, internet.
