The accusation that Donald Rumsfeld was a "micromanager" of the battlefield is unsubstantiated. Unless the Tillman family had unprecedented access to the office of the Secretary of Defense they could not possibly know this. I think this detracts from the effectiveness of an otherwise very powerful statement.

Of course it's unsubstantiated.

but consider this:

The reason the White House uses outside e-mail accounts to keep in touch is so that it stays unsubstantiated.

If you're aware, even peripherally, of what was going in the rest of the administration, nothing should surprise you.

"Unsubstantiated" means you don't get to press charges.

But will anyone ever entrust their sons and daughters to the military again?

"Were the charges around the Tillman case ever substantiated?"

"No."

"Well then, send Billy and Martha off to join the Army!"

Of course. But we know those emails exist. We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat. And we have evidence that the Whitehouse is trying to reconstitute its RNC email program, and is actively seeking tech support from Africa.
