A Paelstinian doctor and six Bulgarian nurses face the death penalty in Libya.

Hundreds of children in a Libyan hospital contracted AIDS. Rather than do a serious investigation, Libya chose to scapegoat foreigners.

The evidence against them is so shockingly weak that the scientific journal Nature has published an expose.

The six may be executed on October 31.

NATURE report: A Shocking Lack of Evidence

This is obviously a travesty. What is Canada doing? Any diplomatic pressure?

Is there anything that the general public can be doing?

Did the feds in Ottawa ever prosecute anyone over the tainted blood tragedy here that resulted in thousands contracting AIDS and hepatitis through transfusions ?. Or are they waiting for the rest of the victims to die off before offering them compensation ?.

Maybe I am extra thick today, but how does that relate to the potential execution of innocents in Bulgaria???

I'm not saying they shouldn't get a fair trial, or that a proper inquiry shouldn't happen to find out what went wrong.

I'm saying that we let off our own blood czars here in Canada with slaps on the wrists for essentially murdering thousands of Canadians and denying any wrong doing for the duration of Krever's inquiry. Personally, I think our own blood people responsible for the colossal fuckup here should have been lined up at dawn without cigarettes or blindfolds, pissed on and shot between the eyes.

Can we afford the risks of de-regulation ?

These people are facing death. The evidence is a pack of lies.

So you respond by changing the subject. If you want to discuss the findings of the Canadian Inquiry into Tainted Blood, open a thread.

Hey, ignoramus, if you look again you'll see that medics are being executed in Lybia.
The same Lybian regime that has reconciled with the "Coalition of the willing".

Now that is an interesting point, that particular thing had not occurred to me. One would think that the "Coalition of the Willing" would be able to exert enough political pressure to put an end to this if there was the political will.

"Ignoramus" - It's very interesting that an enlighted individual like yourself would choose to give me such a moniker. Would you prefer to be address as "D~ckhe~d" or "Uneducated Condescending Jack$$" on my future posts?

You've read one report on this, Jeff. I'm not making any conclusions either way.

And if I'm not mistaken, doesn't the law allow for precedent case study ?. Canada and, scuse again, France, could qualify as case studies, imo. The French crucified their blood officials, after a free and fair trial of course.

You've read no reports.

But congratulations, you have successfully derailed the thread.

On purpose.

Why don't the two of you start new threads on your individual topics of interest and agree to stay off of each others.

I am sure that everyone agrees that this is an injustice, so instead of all posting that and congratulating ourselves on our moral rightousness, what can we do about it.

Anyone know if Canada has put any political preassure on Libya? Would writing letter's to MP's might be worthwhile?

I understand that the deadline for executing these people has been extended before. World opinion might be able to sway Libya again.

Weren't these nurses sent to Lybia, as, ummmm, err, an extension of a program of the previous regieme, as part of its policy of propogating fraternal relationships between the socialist block and their Arab brothers and sisters?

Expomed, the company which hired the nurses, is in fact a state owned company and an extension of the old communist healthcare system, which provided contract medical personel for the emerging socialist world, I believe.

Let's just be glad something is being done while hundreds of Libyan children are dead, and not thousands of people, as in Canadians murdered by Connaught Laboratory's trafficking of tainted blood products, some of which were collected from U.S. gulags where known-to-be infected with AIDS and hep C poor American prisoners donated blood that was shipped to Canada unscreened. And maybe you dont wanna know about private entperprise's hand in BSE outbreaks from Maggie's Britain to Canada and the U.S.

Cueball, what are avg. mortality rates like in Libya compared with the rest of Africa weighted down by Washington consensus ?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.
