Absolutely! A place when disabled people have something special to contribute, an understanding of the issues and the barriers that no able bodied person can fully understand, unless they have lived with a disabled person.I burned my eyes once and was completely bandaged for three weeks so couldnt see a thing, and the dumbest things were terrifying - walking across a thickly gravelled parking lot, it felt as if the ground could drop out under my feet because it was so NOT solid - using a public washroom and having to feel your way and thinking "OMG what if someone made a mess all over the seat?" Having to FEEL if the seat was up or down -- oh YUK ! Having a nurse appear unannounced out of nowhere and just shove a needle in me - after just three weeks I developed a sense of smell that enabled me to tell if someone was approaching - but at that time I was just lying there minding my own business and this nurse just jammed a needle into me - unbelievable. It was a truly harrowing, horrible three weeks, and when they removed the bandages my vision was as blurred as if I were underwater but believe me that was GOOD ! It was a huge relief to have that, of course over time I had normal vision again. This is good. BC needs this.
