AND they phoned me - well they saw my partners ad in the paper and phoned and I talked to them about me - and I have a job! AND the best part is its working for an agency for the disabled, in this case the blind - I HAVE A PURPOSE TO MY LIFE AGAIN !! I dont know all the details, like it is going to be permanent - but it sounds like it. I will have a contact with them to provide fund raising, communication and that kind of support services.

Kindred, that is really wonderful. I'm so happy to hear that. After the hassle you went through over the last year with that jerky ex-employer, you really deserve a break. Good for you!

In related news, I found out today that I have a job until the end of this year too! I start either on July 7th or 14th. So I'm a happy camper as well. It's been three months of job searching!

Certainly no time at all in comparison to your year of job searching though, Kindred. Cheers. *clink!*

I'm so happy for you, Kindred, being in a job that has meaning for you. I hope the same goes for Michelle in her new job. My congratulations and best wishes to both of you.

Kindred, please check your PMs.

Congrats Michelle - I am so excited, I have been so depressed sitting around and doing nothing and thinking I feel I have a lot to offer someone if people would just look at ME and the whole board of this agency is disabled ! How great is that?

Trush I have no new PMs, you sent me one which I answered - maybe I will try sending it again it you didnt get it ??

Kindred, beyond simply getting a job (not always easy at our age, despite the pap about spoiled boomers) I'm so happy you are in a place where all the experiences you went through as an injured worker are seen as valuable experience and not a handicap!

Absolutely! A place when disabled people have something special to contribute, an understanding of the issues and the barriers that no able bodied person can fully understand, unless they have lived with a disabled person.

I burned my eyes once and was completely bandaged for three weeks so couldnt see a thing, and the dumbest things were terrifying - walking across a thickly gravelled parking lot, it felt as if the ground could drop out under my feet because it was so NOT solid - using a public washroom and having to feel your way and thinking "OMG what if someone made a mess all over the seat?" Having to FEEL if the seat was up or down -- oh YUK !

Having a nurse appear unannounced out of nowhere and just shove a needle in me - after just three weeks I developed a sense of smell that enabled me to tell if someone was approaching - but at that time I was just lying there minding my own business and this nurse just jammed a needle into me - unbelievable.

It was a truly harrowing, horrible three weeks, and when they removed the bandages my vision was as blurred as if I were underwater but believe me that was GOOD ! It was a huge relief to have that, of course over time I had normal vision again.

This is good. BC needs this.
