I know we touched about this in the Sylvia Browne thread, but that thread is more about crackpot fake psychics than about this particular case so I thought I'd start a new one.

I'm reading the coverage of this case, and it's getting to me. First of all, it sucks that the family is under such intense scrutiny because their son apparently had lots of opportunities to report his own abduction but didn't.

But the parents' statements to the media strike me as incredibly inappropriate.

Check this out:

quote:
The Akerses told Oprah Winfrey in an interview broadcast Thursday that they believe Devlin sexually assaulted their son, but on Friday they said they haven't yet asked Shawn to reveal details about his abduction. The parents said they plan to ask him "when the time is right." (Watch parents say why they believe boy was abused )

When asked if they thought their son had been sexually abused, Pam Akers said, "I don't want everybody to think that he had this perfect life with this guy. There's no way he had a perfect life with this guy."

Okay. They haven't asked their son yet whether he was sexually abused. They want to wait until the time is right. So what do they do? They announce their unconfirmed SUSPICIONS of it on national television! Because I'm sure this kid has no way of finding out what his parents are saying about him on NATIONAL TELEVISION.

Except, oh wait, he is quite internet savvy (considering that he was communicating anonymously with his parents online), and he's 15 years old, so it's not like he's some 3 year-old that they can shield.

Why on earth would they DO that?

Leave them alone! I just hope no one they know has shown them this site! If they are looking, I say I'm sorry for your loss that will never be totally recovered, and good luck in the future, which will be the best it could be because of the return of your son, and also will at times be very tough. My thoughts are with you.

Would you run round telling people your 15 year old son has been sexually abused? Why do you want to know so much? How much detail do you want? They said his life was not good, isn't that enough detail for you?

If the boy wants to make money thats up to him. What ever helps him.
