More ammo for the War On Terra.

quote:
Four men, including a onetime airport cargo handler and a former member of the Parliament of Guyana, were charged yesterday with plotting to blow up fuel tanks, terminal buildings and the web of fuel lines running beneath Kennedy International Airport.

One of the suspects was taken into custody in Brooklyn and two others were detained in Trinidad, the authorities said, while the fourth man was still at large.

One defendant, the former cargo handler, Russell Defreitas, was arraigned yesterday in federal court in Brooklyn. He is a 63-year-old Guyanese native and naturalized American citizen who lives in Brooklyn.

Thank goodness I take the bus to New York City when I travel there. Greyhound security always makes me feel much more secure.

CTV National with Sandy, had an interesting report on this last evening.

Apparently, the 63 old talked about it 10 years ago to those men. There was a link to JFk on his comp.

But, they never had any explosives, and never had attempted to get any explosives, or any explosive material making stuff.

Yeah, I always take these "foiled terrorism plots" with a grain of salt myself. Quite frankly, after Bush lied about the WMD, I just don't trust any of them when they try to scare the public with reports of terrorism or "close calls".

I dunno about this one. A SECOND PLOT to blow up JFK (remember the "liquid" bomb scare?)??? This, coming only two weeks after the hokey "Fort Dix" plot was "foiled?" Announced at the end of the weekly news cycle to ensure that NOTHING else gets heard over the weekend (same as the Fort Dix "plot")???

There were no bombs at all, (again) hmmm?

As a somewhat devoted conspiracy theorist, I have the distinct feeling that we are getting set up for another LIHOP moment. Most people do not know that there is a shadow government in place in the US, and they do not know that new legislation has been passed enabling (and I use this word DELIBERATELY, for all of you WWII fans) Boosh/Cheney to impose a type of Martial Law where they will be able to pass any law they wish, independent of Congress and/or the Senate in the event of castrophe or terrorist threat...

Honey!!! Break out the tinfoil and unlock the cellar door! Call me when it's OVER!!!

You really have to wonder about these so called plots. When the details come out you have to wonder how serious were these guys in the first place. In many cases it seems like the "Gang that couldn't Shoot Straight" or the "Keystone Cops" that did the planning for these "terrorist plots".

It does all sound ridiculous, but then again, imagine if it were Sept. 10, 2001 and we saw a headline in the papers that 19 men were arrested because they were plotting to hijack four planes simultaneously and fly them into such targets as the World Trade Centre, the Pentagon and the Capitol etc...

I suspect that the vast majority of babblers would have dismissed it as far-fetched and ridiculous etc...

And taking over the planes with box-cutters of all things!! It would have been viewed as ridiculous...

One of the reports about this story pointed out that many authorities are now in the habit of outlining all sorts of fictional scenarios, "What ifs", and speculations about what the "plotters" might have done if they're nefarious schemes weren't foiled. It's no longer enough to simply outline the facts and let the courts decide such matters. I suppose it's a way of preparing the public for preventative arrest, routine torture of suspects, the presumption of guilt and other totalitarian police state tactics. It's not all that different from poisoning the jury pool in high profile criminal cases.

Complete crap yet again, these guys are arrested for having 'discussions' about doing that?

How many teenagers with angst would end up in jail if they were arrested every time they had 'discussions' or drew maps of their high schools, local malls, buildings etc.

I don't have any problems with them arresting people who are actually planning on doing something, but sending in a mole who encourages these discussions and then arresting people for it sounds like entrapment to me.
