I was less interested in Fire Chief Bonnie Bleskachek's domestic/workplace troubles, however, than I was by the following comments:
quote:In happier times Bleskachek and Cornell co-founded the Minnesota Women Firefighters Association.
Bleskachek became fire chief in 2004 and is believed to be the only female fire chief in the country.
Last year Mayor Ryback said he was surprised at the lack of opposition in his appointment of her. Rybak said he only got three e-mails of complaint -- all from people outside Minneapolis.
Bleskachek worked her way up the ranks over 16 years in the fire service.
This got me to wondering... I know there have been discrimination and harassment lawsuits by female firefighters in Canada -- against male bosses and co-workers, but not (that I know) related to any domestic disputes.
My question is, have any females made fire chief in this country? What about the "top brass" levels in other traditionally "macho" jobs, like police chief, etc.? I wonder if this is one area where we are lagging behind the States...?

Just off the top of my head, I believe the Calgary chief of police either was or still is a woman. Well respected, too.

[pedant]I think you meant to say that a woman either was or still is Calgary's chief of police, and not that former police chief Christine Silverberg may have transitioned from female to male.
